Abstract:
The present invention relates to hydrous silicic acid for a rubber-reinforcing filler, which has a CTAB specific surface area of 220-350 m2/g, in which the volume of pores having radii of 1.9-100 nm, as measured by mercury intrusion porosimetry, is 1.7-2.0 cm3/g, the volume average particle diameter D50 in a volume-based particle size distribution is 5.0-12.0 µm, as measured by a laser diffraction method using a slurry obtained by dispersing 50 mL of a hydrous silicic acid slurry adjusted to a concentration of 4 mass% for 10 minutes using an ultrasonic wave homogenizer having an output of 140 W, and in which the cumulative value of hydrous silicic acid particles having diameters within the range 4.0-35.0 µm in the volume-based particle size distribution is 80% or more. The present invention also relates to a rubber composition containing a natural rubber-containing rubber component and the hydrous silicic acid. The present invention provides: hydrous silicic acid which can greatly reduce rolling resistance and which exhibits equivalent or better reinforcing properties (abrasion resistance and tensile strength) compared to conventional hydrous silicic acid when blended in a rubber containing mainly natural rubber for TBR which is often used under heavy loads; and a rubber composition containing the hydrous silicic acid.
