Abstract:
Provided is a technology for authenticating whether or not a cartridge attached to a device body is an authorized product. This image-forming device 1 comprises: a device body 2; a cartridge 3 attachable to the device body 2, the cartridge including a memory 31 storing a random number RN1 having a plurality of digits; and a control unit 29. The control unit 29 is capable of executing: a process for reading out the random number RN1 from the memory 31; a process for transmitting, to an authentication server 4, an authentication request ARq based on the random number RN1 read out by the read-out process; a process for receiving, from the authentication server 4, an authentication response ARs indicating that a result of an authentication process by the authentication server 4 based on the random number RN1 is valid or invalid; and at least one of a process for setting the device body 2 and a notification setting process for notifying whether the cartridge 3 is valid or invalid, depending on the authentication response ARs.
