Title:
IMPROVEMENTS IN SEWING MACHINES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2007007314
Kind Code:
A8
Abstract:
A sewing thread insertion mechanism that is capable, when integrated into a conventional chain stitch, interlock or overlock sewing machine that is modified to accept it, of locking several stitches along the seam wherever necessary. The locking is performed by interlocking an additional securing thread (15), with the conventional upper thread (11), of the chain-stitch, interlock or overlock seam beneath the fabrics. The additional securing thread can derive from an additional spool (16), or from the conventional upper thread (11), or lower thread (31), of the sewing machine. The additional securing thread is inserted into several loops made by the upper thread of the sewing machine under the fabrics either from the first locked loop or from the last locked loop without unlocking the previous locked stitch. The inserting mechanism comprises a looper or a catcher (14), and also has the means to grasp, hold and cut (25a, 25b), the securing thread at the relevant point.
