Abstract:
A control unit (5) forms an image on a print medium by alternately and repeatedly performing a first operation in which an ink jet head (31) is driven to eject ink onto a print medium while a main scanning driving unit (24) is driven to move the ink jet head (31) in a main scanning direction and a second operation in which a sub-scanning driving unit (12) is driven to move a shuttle (4) in a sub-scanning direction. The control unit (5) performs braking control in a plurality of stages when stopping the shuttle (4) in the second operation, and brakes the shuttle (4) at a timing at which a vibration direction of the shuttle (4) and an inertia force at braking are oriented in mutually opposite directions in the second and subsequent stages of the braking control out of the plurality of stages of the braking control.
