Abstract:
Provided are an ink ribbon color determining device and method capable of determining the color of an ink ribbon with a high degree of accuracy, and a printing device provided with the color determining device. A control unit 1 of this color determining device controls a light emission output of a light emitting element 30 in such a way that an output signal of a specific light receiving element, which is any one of light receiving elements 31R, 31G, 31B which have received light from the light emitting element 30 that has passed through an overprint layer OP of an ink ribbon 61, reaches a prescribed value, and in a state in which the output signal of the specific light receiving element has reached the prescribed value, the control unit 1 obtains and stores ratios between the output signal of the specific light receiving element and the output signals of the light receiving elements other than the specific light receiving element. On the basis of these ratios, the control unit 1 adjusts the output signals of the light receiving elements other than the specific light receiving element, from among each of the output signals of the light receiving elements 31R, 31G, 31B which receive light that has been emitted from the light emitting element 30 and has passed through the ink ribbon 61, and the control unit 1 determines the color of the ink ribbon on the basis of the adjusted output signals and the output signal of the specific light receiving element.
