Description:
Ionizer Ejection System

Technical Field of the Invention

The invention relates to a removable ionizer ejection system, for creating an easy access to the ionizer mounted on an air cleaning system that operates with air flow.

Background of the Invention

As known, the quality of air, especially in closed environments with little circulation of air, tends to degrade due to the accumulation of particulate such as smoke, bacteria, viruses, gas, pollen and other volatile organic compounds emitted by household appliances or office equipment, such as printers, photocopiers, food storage apparatuses, etc. Such substances make the environment less pleasant, not only due to the smell associated with them but also due to a proven harmful effect on health.

Devices and methods for purifying air are known that consist of holding the aforementioned substances in a particulate filter but the novel use of other devices such as ionizers are also gaining acceptance for the purpose of air cleaning.

Ionization methods consist of electrically exciting atoms or molecules present in the air to the point of causing electrons to detach from the respective atomic orbits; the atoms with an electron removed, commonly known as cations or positive ions, are positively charged. Moreover, the freed electrons collide with other atoms or molecules present in the air, negatively charging them and forming so-called anions or negative ions. The ionization is thus based on the transformation of atoms or molecules of particulate into respective anions or cations that are not harmful to man. Indeed, the atoms from which electrons are subtracted are unstable and seek an equilibrium that generates new collisions and aggregations.

Such devices and methods as disclosed in patent document KR20170051141 suffer from the substantial drawbacks of undergoing progressive and rapid deterioration of the air purification capability, which goes down as impurities accumulate in the filters, as well as impurities accumulating in and, on the ion outlet ports (nozzles, needles, probes) which creates malfunctions with the device. Thus, the ionizers themselves need periodic cleaning and/or maintenance or even replacement, which creates a financial burden, both for the manufacturer providing a product under guarantee and also the buyer, which has deteriorating air quality as the device functions with less and less efficiency.

Detailed Description of the Invention

The removal of ionizers from air conditioning (A/C) units or other fan systems is timeconsuming and expensive. A technical service is required to dismantle the whole unit that creates air out flow to take out the malfunctioning device, replace or fix the device and remount the device in the correct position, with the associated electrical wiring.

The present system addresses the problem of reducing the difficulties with accessing the ionizers which are used for eliminating contaminants, including particulate, dust, mold, mildew, odors, gases, bacteria, viruses and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), within a particular area such as a room.

As shown in FIGS. 1, a preferred embodiment of the system (S) is comprised of the following elements: a housing (1), electrical contact points (2), one of which is for voltage pin and the other is for ground pin, an ejection port (3), an ionizer (4), preferably an ionizer, electrical wiring (5), electrical inlet (6), Fan (7), Micro controller circuit board (8).

In another embodiment, there is one electrical contact point in the housing (1). The contact point includes input voltage pin and ground pin to supply ionizer (4). In one embodiment, ion outlets (9) as shown in FIG. 2 is allow for the proper functioning of the device whilst providing an easy to use ejection location for the ionizer in proportion to the air flow and ejection system (S).

In one embodiment, housing (1) as shown in FIG. 3 is held by a small pin (11) so it can’t be completely taken out of the ejection port (3) when the ionizer (4) is directly connected to electrical wiring (5). The Pin (11) prevents the complete release of the device as it is pulled due to the protrusion it creates on the surface of the ejection system. Thus, preventing the ejection mechanism to be completely pulled out. This is important for safety purposes and furthermore it prevents the home user from accidentally damaging the electrical connections if the housing (1) is pulled in a fast manner. The interlocking mechanism is meant to hold the ionizer (4) firmly in place (with or without electrical wiring) once the clips at the tip of the handles (13) on both sides of the ejection system (S) slide into the small curvatures (4) on the sides of the housing (1). The handles (13) are flexible so that the housing (1) can be pulled out but can still fulfill the function of holding the housing (1) firmly in place. The handles (13) are held by two screws (12) on each side.

In one embodiment, the location of the ejection system as shown in FIG. 4 is in relation to the air flow on a self-standing fan system. As the air cleaning substance generator (ion generator/ionizer) (4) has to disperse the air cleaning substance (ions) into air with a fan (7), the ionizer (4) must be in a location that is in front of the air stream yet still in a place that can easily be taken out for cleaning, maintenance or replacement. The air inlet (14) takes in the outside air through the fan (7), as the air flow is pushed forward at around 1 meter per second, it reaches the front of the ion outlet ports where the ions generated by the ionizer go with the same direction (17) as the airflow generated by the fan (7). And finally, the ionized air is forced through the air outlet ionizing the air within the environment, where the unit has been placed such as a room. Thus the location of the ionizer or ionizer (4) in relation to the air inlet(s) (14), fan (7) and air outlet (16) is important and is already known by one skilled in the art, the main advantage of the present invention is that the ionizer (4) with a housing (1) is located on an outward bound location after the fan (7), which makes it easily maintained, replaced or cleaned. FIG. 6 is how the housing (1) with the ionizer (4) can be removed without opening a casing (20) of the air cleaning system.

In one embodiment, the ionizer (4) as shown in FIG. 5, is placed in a small housing (1) and gets the required electricity from voltage points placed on the bottom of the housing (1). In one embodiment, the ionizer (4) located within the casing (20) can be partially drawn out of the casing (20) without the use of tools. Partial removal means that the ion generation outlets (9) of the ionizer can be slid out of the casing (20), enough to clean the ion generation outlets (9) of the ionizer.

In another embodiment, the ionizer located within the casing (20) is for ionizing the air in the room and not the air drawn(recirculating) into the fan system. Thus, the air outlet (16) is arranged to emit ionized air away from the ionizer.

In another embodiment of the present invention, the ionizer ejection system (S) is directly coupled with the main ionizer, such as an ionizer.

In another embodiment; the ionizer (4) can be directly reached without dismantling or opening the case of the air cleaner unit due to the advantage the ejection system (S), wherein the ionizer (4) is held in place by a lock in mechanism.

In another embodiment, the outer surface of the ejection system (S) coupled with the ionizer (4) is provided with electrical contacts (2) to connect to the voltage sources in a housing (1), wherein the whole unit can be removed without removing the wiring (5).

In another preferred embodiment, the ionizer (4) is placed in a housing (1) and gets the required electricity from electrical contacts (2) placed on the bottom of the housing (1), which has no electrical wiring directly connected to the ionizer (4) but gets the electricity from the voltage source in the housing (1).

In another preferred embodiment, the ionizer (4) is placed in a housing (1) and gets the required electricity from electrical contact(s) (2) placed on either side of the housing (1).

In another preferred embodiment, the ionizer (4) is directly linked to electrical wiring (5) for electricity but the housing (1) is held by a small pin (11), so it cannot be completely taken out of the casing (20) when the ionizer (4) is directly connected to electrical wiring (5).

In the most preferred embodiment, the ionizer (4) is a bipolar ionizer.

In preferred embodiment, an ionizer ejection system is applicable to self-standing air cleaning units. In another preferred embodiment, an ionizer ejection system is applicable to wall mounted air cleaning units.

In another preferred embodiment, an ionizer ejection system is implemented into A/C units.

The ejection system itself is low-cost, because it is constructed of injected molded plastics stamped and extruded metal components. It makes the cleaning, maintenance, repair and replacement of the device easy, because it is placed in an outward-bound housing unit, rather than within the system as it can be seen in the prior art.

This can allow the ionizer to be easily drawn out from the housing without requiring any tools, for periodic cleaning or replacement, without requiring disassembly of the fan system.

The technical solution of the above embodiment is only used to illustrate the present invention, but not to limit it. Skilled person in the art should understand that they can still modify the foregoing technical solution, or equivalently replace some of the technical features and these modifications or replacement does not cause the essence of the corresponding technical solution to deviate from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
