Abstract:
Provided are an irradiation device and a treatment method which can effectively irradiate an antibody-photosensitive substance bonded to a cervical-cancer cell membrane with near-infrared radiation. A method for treating cervical cancer, the method including: a step for administering an antibody-photosensitive substance into a vein; a step for inserting an irradiation device (10) having an optical fiber (60) and a position recognition marker (50) into the uterine artery (UA) after the elapse of 12-36 hours from the intravenous administration; a step for emitting near-infrared radiation in a direction substantially perpendicular to the optical fiber (60) by using the optical fiber (60); a step for inserting the irradiation device (10) into the uterine neck (U) from the vagina (V); a step for emitting radiation in a direction substantially perpendicular to the optical fiber (60) by using the optical fiber (60) provided to the irradiation device (10); a step for withdrawing a balloon (30) provided to the irradiation device (10) out to the ostium uteri (O), and inflating the balloon (30) so as to follow along the shape of the internal organs; and a step for emitting near-infrared radiation in a substantially distal direction and/or in a direction substantially perpendicular to the optical fiber (60) by using the optical fiber (60).
