Abstract:
The present invention relates to a storage container kit for sealingly engaging with a main container, comprising: a storage container unit having an opening, a spout lid adapted to engage with a circumference of the opening of said storage container unit, wherein said spout lid includes a spout opening for enabling a seal engagement with the main container for combining the volumes of said main container with said storage container unit and for allowing flow communication of materials and liquids stored in said container unit to pass through the spout opening, wherein said spout opening is formed in such a way that it enables to modify its outer diameter; and a closing lid configured to be assembled with the spout lid and/or with the container unit.

Claims:
Claims

1. A storage container kit for sealingly engaging with a main container, comprising:

a) A storage container unit having an opening;

b) A spout lid adapted to engage with a circumference of the opening of said storage container unit, wherein said spout lid includes a neck portion provided with a spout opening for enabling to establish a seal engagement with the main container, for combining the volumes of said main container with said storage container unit and for allowing flow communication between them through the spout opening, wherein said spout lid is formed in such a way that it enables to modify an outer diameter of the neck portion; and

c) A closing lid configured to be assembled with the spout lid and/or with the container unit.

A storage container kit according to claim 1, further comprising an adapter element configured to be assembled on the neck portion of the spout lid for modifying the outer diameter of said neck portion, wherein said adapter enables to engage with the main container for combining the volume of said main container with said storage container unit.

3. A storage container kit according to claim 1, in which the neck portion of the spout lid includes a coupling mechanism for enabling the engagement of the spout lid with the main container, wherein said coupling mechanism comprises:

a) at least one ring-like seal located at the neck portion and sized to engage an inner wall of an opening of said main container; and

b) a shoulder adapted to limit the insertion of the neck portion through the opening of the main container, wherein said shoulder is spaced apart from said at least one ring-like seal, and it is sized and configured to sit on an open edge of said main container, wherein said shoulder is in removable abutting relation with the open edge of said main container, while the neck portion of said spout opening (herein spout neck portion) is inserted by a maximum extent through the opening of said main container.

4. A storage container kit according to claim 2, in which the neck portion of the spout lid and the adapter element are assembled by using a mechanical attachment, as for fitting said adapter element to said neck portion in order to keep them locked together.

5. A storage container kit according to claim 4, in which the mechanical attachment is selected from the group consisting of a bayonet mount, screw, a snap-on mechanism or a click mechanism.

6. A storage container kit according to claim 2, in which the adapter element includes a coupling mechanism for enabling the engagement of the spout lid with the main container, wherein said coupling mechanism comprises:

a) at least one ring-like seal located at said adapter element and sized to engage an inner wall of an opening of said main container; and

b) a shoulder adapted to limit the insertion of the adapter element through the opening of the main container, wherein said shoulder is spaced apart from said at least one ring-like seal, sized and configured to sit on an open edge of said main container, wherein said shoulder is in removable abutting relation with an opening edge of said main container, while a neck portion of said adapter element (herein adapter element neck portion) is inserted by a maximum extent through the opening of said main container, thereby defining the maximum extent of said ringlike seal.

7. A storage container kit according to claim 1, wherein the bottom of the storage container units and the top of the closing lid are configured for interlocking together, as to form a stackable system when using two or more container units and closing lids.

8. A storage container kit according to claim 1, further comprising a plurality of spout lids enabling engagement with the main container and with one or more corresponding storage container units.

9. A storage container kit according to claim 2, further comprises a plurality of adapter elements each of which for enabling the engagement with a corresponding main container.

A spout lid adapted to engage with a circumference of an opening of a storage container unit, wherein said spout lid includes a neck portion provided with a spout opening for enabling engagement with a main container, for combining the volume of said main container with the volume of said storage container unit and thereby enabling flow communication between said volumesthrough the spout opening, wherein said spout opening is formed in such a way that it enables to modify its outer diameter.

A spout lid according to claim 10, further comprising an adapter element configured to be assembled on the neck portion of the spout lid for modifying the outer diameter of the neck portion of the spout lid, wherein said adapter enables to engage with the main container for combining the volume of said main container with said storage container unit.

12. A spout lid according to claim 10, further comprising a closing lid configured to be assembled with the spout lid and/or with an open edge of the container unit.

13. A spout lid according to claim 10, in which the storage container unit includes a corresponding closing lid.

14. A spout lid according to claim 10, in which the engagement with the main container is performed by a coupling mechanism, wherein said coupling mechanism comprises:

a) at least one ring-like seal located along the spout opening of the neck portion and sized to engage an inner wall of an opening of said main container; and b) a shoulder adapted to limit the insertion of the neck portion through the opening of the main container, wherein said shoulder is spaced apart from said at least one ring-like seal, and it is sized and configured to sit on an open edge of said main container, wherein said shoulder is in removable abutting relation with the open edge of said main container, while the neck portion of said spout opening (herein spout neck portion) is inserted by a maximum extent through the opening of said main container.

15. A spout lid according to claim 11, in which the adapter element includes a coupling mechanism for enabling the engagement of the spout lid with the main container, wherein said coupling mechanism comprises:

a) at least one ring-like seal located at said adapter element and sized to engage an inner wall of an opening of said main container; and

b) a shoulder adapted to limit the insertion of the adapter element through the opening of the main container, wherein said shoulder is spaced apart from said at least one ring-like seal, sized and configured to sit on an open edge of said main container, wherein said shoulder is in removable abutting relation with the opening edge of said main container, while a neck portion of said adapter element (herein adapter element neck portion) is inserted by a maximum extent through the opening of said main container,

16. A spout lid according to claim 14 or 15, in which the shoulder has a conic form.

17. A spout lid according to claim 14 or 15, in which the closing lid is configured to be assembled with the spout lid.

18. A spout lid according to claim 10, in which the spout lid and the storage container unit are provided in form of a single unit.

19. A spout lid according to claim 10, further comprising at least one sealable opening in the form of a screw cap or laminates or cobination of both.

20. A spout lid according to claim 11, in which adapter element is configured to secure the engamnet of the main container with the storage container unit.

Description:
A KIT FOR COMBINING CONTAINERS

Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to the field of containers. More particularly, the invention relates to a kit of containers and adapters specially designed for quickly one-stop plugging-in or coupling to another container for combining the volume of both containers, wherein each container may separately store a component of a formulation for mixing prior to use.

Background of the Invention

The process of many formulation preparation reconstitute for solution require the shaking or swirling of a bottle (or other container) as to generate a mixed solution of two or more ingeridents (e.g., a mixed solution of a protein powder with milk, a baby formula with water, etc.). In some cases an ungently shaking may harm delicate ingredients during the preparation of the formulation in the bottle. Also, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that in order to prepare a baby formula using a feeding bottle, the formula should be mix thoroughly with water by gently shaking or swirling the bottle. However, the current feeding bottles have limited space for mixing the formula in such a manner, as the water in the feeding bottle and the added amount of formula may occupy most of the bottle's volume. Due to the limited mixing space, one usually need to apply excessive force to make sure that the formula mixed well. This may apply to different powder formulations which are sensitive to aggressive mixing, such as baby formula, protein powder, medical substances, etc.

It is a purpose of the present invention to provide a kit of storage containers designed to enable engagement with a main container for combining the volume of both containers, and thereby expanding the available mixing space and allowing a gently shaking or swirling of the bottle.

It is another purpose of the present invention to provide a kit comprising different adapters suitable to engage the wide variety of containers available in the market, like bottles of ready to drink ( TD) beverages and mineral water.

Further purposes and advantages of this invention will appear as the description proceeds. . -

Summary of the Invention

The present invention relates to a storage container kit for sealingly engaging with a main container, comprising:

A storage container unit having an opening;

A spout lid adapted to engage with a circumference of the opening of said storage container unit, wherein said spout lid includes a spout opening for enabling a seal engagement with the main container for combining the volumes of said main container with said storage container unit and for allowing flow communication of materials and liquids stored in said container unit to pass through the spout opening, wherein said spout opening is formed in such a way that it enables to modify its outer diameter; and

A closing lid configured to be assembled with the spout lid and/or with the container unit.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the kit further comprises an adapter element configured to be assembled on the spout opening of the spout lid for modifying the outer diameter of said spout opening, wherein said adapter enables to engage with the main container for combining the volume of said main container with said storage container unit.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the spout lid includes a coupling mechanism for enabling the engagement of the spout opening with the main container, wherein said coupling mechanism comprises:

at least one ring-like seal located along said spout opening and sized to engage an inner wall of an opening of said main container; and

a shoulder, spaced apart from said at least one ring-like seal, sized and configured to sit on an open edge of said main container, wherein said shoulder is in removable abutting relation with the open edge of said main container, while a neck portion of said spout opening (herein spout neck portion) is inserted by a maximum extent through the opening of said main container, thereby defining the maximum extent of said ring-like seal.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the shoulder has a conic shape.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the storage container unit can be disposable or reusable. According to an embodiment of the invention, the spout opening and the adapter element are assembled by using a mechanical attachment, as for fitting said adapter element to said spout opening in order to keep them locked together, wherein said mechanical attachment can be rigid, semi-rigid or flexible.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the mechanical attachment is selected from the group consisting of a bayonet mount, screw, a snap-on mechanism or a click mechanism.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the adapter element includes a coupling mechanism for enabling the engagement of the with the main container, wherein said coupling mechanism comprises:

at least one ring-like seal located at along the adapter element and sized to engage an inner wall of an opening of said main container; and

a shoulder, spaced apart from said at least one ring-like seal, sized and configured to sit on an open edge of said main container, wherein said shoulder is in removable abutting relation with the spout lid open edge of said main container, while a neck portion of said adapter element (herein adapter element neck portion) is inserted by a maximum extent through the opening of said main container, thereby defining the maximum extent of said ring-like seal.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the bottom of the storage container units and the top of the closing lid are configured for interlocking together, as to form a stackable system when using two or more container units and closing lids.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the kit further comprises a plurality of spout lids enabling engagement with the main container and with one or more corresponding storage container units.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the kit further comprises a plurality of adapter elements each of which for enabling the engagement with a corresponding main container.

In another aspect, the present invention relates to a spout lid adapted to engage with a circumference of an opening of a storage container unit, wherein said spout lid includes a spout opening for enabling engagement with a main container for combining the volume of . . said main container with said storage container unit and for allowing material stored in said container unit to pass through the spout opening, wherein said spout opening is formed in such a way that it enables to modify its outer diameter.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the spout lid further comprises an adapter element configured to be assembled on the spout opening of the spout lid for modifying the outer diameter of said spout opening, wherein said adapter enables to engage with the main container for combining the volume of said main container with said storage container unit.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the spout lid further comprises a closing lid configured to be assembled with the spout lid and/or with an open edge of the container unit.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the storage container unit includes a corresponding closing lid.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the spout lid is adapted to different storages containers including one or more containers manufactured by one or more third parties.

Detailed Description of Embodiments of the Invention

Reference will now be made to several embodiments of the present invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying figures. Wherever practicable similar or like reference numbers may be used in the figures and may indicate similar or like functionality. The figures depict embodiments of the present invention for purposes of illustration only. One skilled in the art will readily recognize from the following description that alternative embodiments of the structures illustrated herein may be employed without departing from the principles of the invention described herein.

Generally speaking, the present invention relates to a storage container kit designed to be coupled, universally, with wide variety of containers that are available in the market. In particular, this storage container kit is useful when it is required to prepare a solution by the mixture of at least two different ingredients when each ingredient is stored in a different container. For example, a first storage container unit (e.g., that can be provided as part of said kit) stores one type of ingredients (e.g., powdered formula) and a second container (hereinafter referred to as a "main container") stores different ingredients (e.g., the main continer is a baby feeding bottle that stores water) that are intended to be mixed by the coupling of both containers in a way that enables to utilize the combination of their volumes for the solution preparation. In order to enable such coupling, the kit comprises a spout lid that is adapted, in one end, to be assemebled on an opening of the first storage container, and on the other end, to be quickly plugged-in and coupled with the main container. Moreover, the kit nay comprise different adapters and spout lids in order for the user to choose the spout lid and/or the adapter suitable for the specific main container in use. In some embodiments, the . . kit can also be used for combination of a storage container that includes a spout lid, a storage container without a spout lid, a storage container that includes a corresponding closing lid, etc., and it can be combined with any other elements and their combination that can be used for mixing wet, dry or storing different belongings. The kit may further include one or more filters (e.g., a mesh-like filter) that can be combined with the spout lid and/or with the storage continer.

Fig. 1A shows a container unit 101 that can be used in conjunction with the invention. The container unit 101 illustrated in this figure comprises a storage container body 103 and a storage container screwing 102 which designed to be coupled with either a corresponding spout lid element 201 (shown in Figs. 2A-2B), or with a corresponding closing lid element 401 (shown in Fig. 4). According to an embodiment of the invention, spout lid element 201 can be coupled from one side (e.g., a bottom side) container unit 101 and form another side (e.g., top side) with the corresponding closing lid element 401. Storage container unit 101 may store one or more ingredients, and with spout lid element 201 mounted on it, container unit 101 will be able to enage with a main container for solution preparation while combining the volumes of container unit 101 and the main container.

Figs. 2A-2B show a spout lid 201 that is adapted to be mounted on storage container unit 101 (e.g., by using a screwing arrangement, so that in this embodiment spout lid 201 can be screwed on storage container unit 101 by spout lid internal screwing 202 as shown in Fig. 2A). Spout lid 201 further comprises a spout opening 204 located on its top surface 209 for allowing the ingredients that are stored in storage container unit 101 to be poured out through said spout opening 204 while storage container unit 101 is closed with spout lid 201. In this embodiment, top surface 209 has an essentialy flat form. In other embodiments, the top surface may have different forms, e.g., the top surface of spout lid 201 may have a conic form. Fig. 7 schematically illustrates a novel storage & spout unit 701, according to an embodiment of the invention. In this embodiment, storage container unit 101 and spout lid 201 are provided together as to form a single unit, i.e., the novel storage & spout unit 701. In this embodimebt, spout lid 201 has a conic top surface 707. Spout lid 201 includes the ring-like seal 206, the shoulder 207 and a spout opening 204 at the neck portion 208.

As shown in Fig. 2B, spout lid 201 further comprises a spout lid external screwing 203 adapted to mate with closing lid 401 (shown in Fig. 4), slots for bayonet closing 205 adapted to be mate with protrusions for bayonet closing 303 in adapter element 301 (shown in Fig. 3) and a spout . . ring like seal 206 located at the upper end of the spout opening 204 and sized to engaged an inner wall of an opening of a main container adapted to seal and therefore prevent from material to spill out from the combined volume created by both engaging containers. Furthermore, spout lid 201 comprises a spout opening that extends out of the spout lid 201, wherein the structure of the spout opening 204 may include a spout shoulder 207 and a spout neck portion 208. Spout shoulder 207 is used for limiting the insertion of neck portion 208 into a corresponding opning of a main container. In this embodiment, shoulder 207 is spaced apart from spout ring-like seal 206, and it is sized and configured to sit on an open edge of a corresponding main container. Spout shoulder 207 is in removable abutting relation with the open edge of the main container, while the spout neck portion 208 is inserted by a maximum extent through the opening of the main container. Spout shoulder 207 is spaced apart from spout ring-like seal 206 such that it will prevent the spout ring-like seal 206 to deviate from the corresponding region of the spout opening of the main container. Ring-like seal 206 and spout shoulder 207 of spout lid 201 forms a coupling mechsim that enables the engagement of continer unit 101 with a corresponding main container.

As shown in Figs. 8A and 8B, the coupling mechanism of spout lid 201 enables engagement of unit 701 with a corresponding main container 71 (Fig. 8A) or with a diffrent main container 72 (Fig. 8B), for combining the volume of container unit 101 of unit 701 with the volume of main container 71 or with the volume of main container 72. In Fig. 8A shoulder 207 is used for limiting the insertion of neck portion 208. In Fig. 8B, due to a relatively wider opening of main container 72 (with respect to main container 71), the conic top surface 707 of spout lid 201 is used as a shoulder to limit the insretion of neck portion 208 instead of shoulder 207.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of an adapter element 301 adapted for widening the dimenstion of the spout neck portion 208, thereby enabling spout lid 201 to enage with different main container units (i.e., each individual adapter element 301 may have a different diameter that is suitable to be engage with a corresponding opening of a main container). Adapter element 301 enables a seal engagement with the main container for combining the volume of storage container unit 101 with the voulume of a corresponding main container while allowing flow communication between them to occur through spout opening 204. In other words, the outer surface of spout neck portion 208 is formed in such a way that it enables to modify its outer diameter by mounting adapter element 301 thereon. . .

Acoording to an embodiment of the invention, adapter element 301 includes a coupling mechanism (similar to the coupling mecahinsm of spout lid 201) for enabling the engament with a main container. The coupling mechanism includes an adapter ring-like seal 302 and a shoulder 304. In this embodiment, ring-like seal 302 is located at the upper end of adapter element 301 and sized to engage an inner wall of an opening of a corresponding main container. Ring-like seal 302, can be either rigid or flexible, and it is adapted to seal and therefore prevent from material to spill out from the combined volume created by both engaging containers.

According to an embodiment of the invention, adapter element 301 is assembled with spout opening 204 by bayonet closing system which comprises protrusions for bayonet closing 303 for sliding in slots for bayonet closing 205. In the embodiment of the present invention there are 4 slots to accommodate 4 protrusions but it is clear that this number is not limited and can be of any number required by the application. Moreover, this embodiment of the invention uses a bayonet closing system in order to mate the adapter to the spout but it is clear that the closing system could be of any suitable type known to the skilled person, such as screwing, pressure or other means. Furthermore, adapter element 301 comprises an adapter shoulder 304 and adapter neck portion 305. Adapter shoulder 304 is spaced apart from adapter ring-like seal 302, sized and configured to sit on an open edge of a main container. Adapter shoulder 304 is in removable abutting relation with the open edge of the main container, while the adapter neck portion 305 is inserted by a maximum extent through the opening of the main container. Adapter shoulder 304 is spaced apart from adapter ring-like seal 302 such that it will prevent the adapter ring-like seal 302 to deviate from the corresponding region of the spout opening of the main container. According to an embodiment of the invention, ring-like seal 302 may have a larger dimension than the dimenstion of shoulder 304, and in such case top surface 209 of spout lid 201 is used as a to limit the insertion of neck portion 208 (i.e., top surface 209 becomes a shoulder, instead of shoulder 304).

According to an embodiment of the present invention, the kit of the invention comprises variety of adapters aiming to engage with the main containers available in the market. Once a user wants to prepare a desired solution/formula he would choose the suitable adapter element 301 that mates with the spout opening of the main container in which the solution will be consumed and assembled said adapter element 301 on the spout opening 204 for plugging in and coupled with the main container. . .

Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a closing lid 401, according to an embodiment of the present invention. Closing lid 401 adapted to close and seal storage container unit 101 and prevent from the any material that is stored in storage container unit 101 to be spilled out. According to the embodiment of the present invention, the closing of storage container unit 101 is provided by lid internal screwing 404 located at the inner wall of closing lid 401. Closing lid 401 further comprises lid protrusions for bayonet closing 402 adapted to slide in storage container slots 104 located at the bottom of storage container unit 101. Said bayonet closing allows the option for a stackable container system in which containers and lids that are configured to be coupled, wherein the bottom of each container interlock with the top of each lid to allow the containers to be stacked. The coupled allowing the stackable container system is not limited to bayonet system and can be of any suitable closing method known to the skilled person, such as screwing or other means.

Fig. 5 illustrates assembly of four elements of the storage container kit 501, according to an embodiment of the present invention, comprises: storage container unit 101, spout lid 201, an adapter element 301 and a closing lid 401. In this embodiment, storage container lid 101 is assembled to spout lid 201 by storage container screwing 102 and spout lid internal screwing 202 (shown in Fig. 2A). An adapter element 301, chosen from the variety adapter elements available in the kit, is assembled on spout lid 201 by slots for bayonet closing 205 and protrusions for bayonet closing 303 (shown in Fig. 3). In case that the ingredients stored in storage container unit 101 for a later on use, closing lid 401 can be assembled on top of adapter element 301 and assembled to spout lid 201 by spout lid external screwing 203 and lid internal screwing 404. Optionally, it is possible to stuck a plurality of containers with or without spout lid.

Fig. 6 illustrates the assembly of storage container kit 501 of Fig. 5 in an assembled form. In this form, a user can carry said assembled storage container kit which contains the ingredient for the desired solution. Once the user wants to prepare the formulation by mixing the ingredients stored in storage container kit 501 and the ingredients in the main container, the user will open closing lid 401, plug in adapter element 301 to the opening spout of the main container creating a combined volume and perform the necessary mixing for the formulation preparation.

According to another embodiment of the present invention, the storage container kit comprises not only variety of adapter elements allowing the user to choose the adapter . . suitable to engage the relevant main container, but also comprises with variety of spout lids in different sizes in order to mate the storage containers available in the market thereby facilitate the use of said container.

As will be appreciated by the skilled person, the arrangement described in the figures results in a storage container kit which is capable of enabling engagement with the wide variety of main containers available in the market for combining the volume of both containers.

An additional advantage provided by the invention is the ability to perform a gentle mixing of the formulation, while the storage container unit along with the spout lid and the suitable adapter element is coupled to the main container.

All the above description and examples have been given for the purpose of illustration and are not intended to limit the invention in any way. Many different coupling mechanisms can be employed, all without exceeding the scope of the invention.
