Title:
LINEAR VARIABLE REACTOR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1999/031685
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A linear variable reactor which enables wide-range control and has its harmonic distortion reduced. A main winding (12) is wound around a first U-shaped cut core (11). A control winding (14) is wound around a second U-shaped cut core (13). These first and second U-shaped cut cores (11, 13) are in contact with each other, with cut surfaces thereof facing each other and with the second U-shaped cut core (13) rotated by 90° in a torsional direction with respect to the first U-shaped cut core (11). Four surfaces of the contact part form a common magnetic circuit of the first and the second U-shaped cut cores (11, 13). A part of the common magnetic circuit is cut off, thus forming a wedge-shaped gap (15). As the wedge-shaped gap (15) is formed in the common magnetic circuit, the common magnetic path becomes parallel magnetic paths of the contact part (16) of the first and the second U-shaped cut cores (11, 13) and the wedge-shaped gap (15). By changing the excitation current of the control winding (14), the inductance of the main winding (12) may be made linear.
