Abstract:
A polymer (A) having a structure unit (U1) derived from a monomer represented by formula (1) is included in the liquid crystal orientation agent. In formula (1), R1 represents a monovalent organic group, R2 and R3 each represent a single bond, a methylene group, or an ethylene group, and n represents 0 or 1. If n = 0, R2 represents a methylene group or an ethylene group. R4 represents: a divalent group having a ring X wherein a polymerizable group constitutes a portion of the ring, R2 and R3 being bonded to a carbon atom constituting a portion of the ring X; a divalent group having a ring Y that is bonded to a polymerizable group, R2 and R3 being bonded to a carbon atom constituting a portion of the ring Y; or a divalent group having a carbon atom Z bonded to two rings Y, R2 and R3 being bonded to the carbon atom Z.
