Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a low temperature cooling system having an excellent energy efficiency using a mechanical refrigerator. [Solution] A low temperature cooling system 100 is characterized by having: a mechanical refrigerator 10 having a low-temperature end 14 refrigerated to a temperature equal to or lower than that of liquid hydrogen and a high-temperature end 20 heated to a temperature higher than that of the low-temperature end 14; a cryostat 11 thermally connected to the low-temperature end 14, the cryostat 11 housing therein a low-temperature operation device which operates at a temperature equal to or lower than that of liquid hydrogen; a liquid hydrogen storage container 22 that is thermally connected to the high-temperature end 20 and that stores liquid hydrogen therein, the liquid hydrogen storage container 22 being capable of cooling the high-temperature end using the latent heat from the vaporization of the liquid hydrogen when the liquid hydrogen undergoes a phase change to hydrogen gas; and a hydrogen power generation unit (fuel cell 25) capable of being driven with the hydrogen gas supplied from the liquid hydrogen storage container 22 through piping 24 serving as a power source, and capable of supplying generated electrical power to the mechanical refrigerator 10.
