Abstract:

A lubricating oil additive comprising a base oil for lubricating oil mixed with an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salicylate having C₁-C₄₀ hydrocarbon groups at its 3- and 5-positions and a (per-) basic salt thereof (A) and a metallic cleaning agent other than salicylate cleaning agents (B); and a lubricating oil composition based on the same. These lubricating oil additive and lubricating oil composition are excellent in storage stability without any precipitation despite the use of a salicylate cleaning agent in combination with another metallic cleaning agent.
