A compound represented by formula (Ia); a polymer which uses this compound as a synthesis starting material; a gas separation membrane having a gas separation layer that contains this polymer; a gas separation module having this gas separation membrane; and a gas separation apparatus. In the formula, each of RA and RB represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or a halogen atom; LA represents -CF2-, -CF(CF3)-, -C(=O)-, -CH2-, -CH(CH3)-, -CH(CF3)- or a combination thereof; and the number of carbon atoms contained in LA is 4 or less.
