Abstract:
Provided are a machining device and a machining method with which machining defects in machining, particularly, in drilling can be reduced and machining efficiency can be improved even when a pressing force of a tool during machining is greater than the rigidity (hardness) of a workpiece. This machining device 1 has: a jig 5 that holds a workpiece W; a tool 7 that abuts a portion of the workpiece W; a driving means 9 that relatively moves the tool 7 with respect to the workpiece W; and a feed driving means 25 that moves one among the tool 7 and the workpiece W so as to move the tool 7 in a desired feed direction with respect to the workpiece W, wherein the weight of a portion of the workpiece W is reduced to change the workpiece into a desired shape, the workpiece W is a glass-based material, and the tool 7 is composed of zirconia.
