Abstract:
Provided is a machining method whereby even in the case of forming directionally non-uniform steep vertical walls along a rotation direction, shape deterioration due to interference between a cutting tool and a target shape can be prevented. During rotation in a first rotation direction (first cutting process), a steep vertical wall (WO1) which has an inclination angle equal to or greater than a predetermined angle to the progressing direction is selectively machined by retraction of the cutting tool (80). During rotation in a second rotation direction (second cutting process), a steep vertical wall (WO2) which has an inclination angle equal to or greater than a predetermined angle to the progressing direction and which has a different rising direction relative to the circumferential direction of the workpiece (W) than the vertical wall (WO1) machined during rotation in the first rotation direction is selectively machined by retraction of the cutting tool (80). Consequently, during rotations in either of the first and second rotation directions, there is no need to machine steep vertical walls that are formed by thrusting of the cutting tool (80), and shape deterioration due to interference between the rear surface side of the cutting tool (80) and the apex of vertical wall (WO2) can be prevented.
