Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a magnetic recording medium having exceptional electromagnetic conversion characteristics and thermal stability. The present disclosure provides a tape-form magnetic recording medium comprising a base and a magnetic layer that is provided on the base and includes a magnetic powder, the magnetic recording medium being such that: the average thickness of the magnetic layer is 90 nm or less; the average aspect ratio of the magnetic powder is 1.0-3.0; the average particle volume of the magnetic powder is 2300 nm3 or less; the vertical-direction magnetic retention Hc1 of the magnetic recording medium is 4500 Oe or less; the length-direction magnetic retention Hc2 of the magnetic recording medium and the magnetic retention Hc1 satisfy the relationship Hc2/Hc1 ≤ 0.8; and the ratio Hrp/Hc1 of the residual magnetic retention Hrp of the magnetic recording medium to the magnetic retention Hc1 is 2.0 or less, the ratio being measured using a pulse magnetic field.
