A method and apparatus for controlling a smart device (130), belonging to the technical field of smart homes. Said method comprises: a control device (110) receiving a control command, which comprises a set of operating mode information, sent by a command transmitting device (120), wherein the set of operating mode information comprises the operating mode information (201) of at least one type of smart device (130); the control device (110), based on the set of operating mode information, configuring the operating mode (202) of the target smart device (130) which is connected to the control device (110) by means of a local area network. The operating mode information is pre-stored within the command transmitting device (120), and when a user wishes to configure the operating mode of the smart device (130), he or she can simply send the relevant control command to the control device (110) by means of the command transmitting device (120), whereby the control device (110) can automatically complete configurations of operating modes, thus streamlining user configuration operations and improving user experience.
