Abstract:
A method and an apparatus capable of selecting needles by using a laminated piezoelectric actuator as a driving source and efficiently transmitting its driving force to a guide needle or a heald needle in a cloth making machine even when the actuator is extremely small in size or when the quantity of displacement is small. According to the needle selection method, a laminate type piezoelectric actuator (17) is connected to, or disposed in the proximity of, the guide needle or the heald needle, and displacement of the guide needle or the heald needle is directly or indirectly controlled by the quantity of displacement of the actuator itself which undergoes displacement in a linear direction by individual selection signals applied thereto. A needle selector drives and controls a sliding rod (6) connected to the guide needle (1) or the heald needle by utilizing the lever-fulcrum principle of the displacement of the piezoelectric actuator (17) in the linear direction through an operation lever (12) and a hook (11), or allows the displacement of the piezoelectric actuator to directly act on the guide needle, so as to control needle selection.
