Abstract:
A method of implanting a substrate and the resulting apparatus are disclosed. The substrate, which may be a solar cell, is implanted with a p-type dopant The p-type dopant may be, for example, boron, aluminum, gallium, or indium. Contacts are formed over the ρ-type region that is formed by the implant. An aluminum layer is formed around these contacts such that a surface of the contacts is still exposed. The implant may be a blanket implant across the entire surface of the substrate or a selective implant into a portion of the substrate. The substrate may be either n-type or p-type.
