Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a method and device for decomposing an organic halogen compound such that an organic halogen compound can be decomposed easily and safely under mild conditions, and the compound can be treated without a burning step, thereby contributing to CO2 reduction. [Solution] An organic halogen compound-containing liquid such as PCBs or dioxin and an alkali metal hydroxide solution such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide are placed in an electrolytic reaction vessel and mixed. A high shear mixing device such as a disperser or a homogenizer is submerged in the mixed solution. A positive electrode such as platinum or iridium is disposed around the shear mixing device, and the shear mixing device is energized as a negative pole and the positive electrode as the positive pole to perform electrolysis. It is also preferable to perform an electrolysis reaction while applying ultrasonic vibrations to the electrolytic reaction vessel.
