Abstract:
Disclosed is a new method with which a curved portion having a small radius of curvature can be formed easily, while suppressing wrinkles and buckling of a starting material tube. A method for manufacturing a hollow member according to the present disclosure includes disposing a starting material tube between a first die and a second die, and subjecting the starting material tube to one or more pressing processes by bringing the first die and the second die relatively closer to one another to press the first die and the second die against the starting material tube, characterized in that: the starting material tube has a circular cross-sectional shape in at least a portion thereof; the first die has a first curved surface; the second die has a second curved surface; in a single pressing process, the first curved surface and the second curved surface are pressed against at least a portion of the starting material tube, thereby subjecting the at least a portion of the starting material tube simultaneously to a cross-sectional process and a bending process; in the cross-sectional process, the circular cross-sectional shape of the starting material tube is caused to contract diametrically; and a diameter reduction ratio in a single pressing process is more than 0% and less than 10%.
