Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for operating a turbo compound system, in which a crankshaft is driven by a combustion engine (7), the exhaust gas stream of which drives an exhaust-gas power-recovery turbine (4) which is operatively connected to a drive element (5). Fuel and air are fed under pressure to a combustion chamber (11) of the combustion engine (7), and the mixture is ignited, this causing a change in volume to the combustion chamber (11), which is delimited by a piston (12) which is movable back and forth between a top and a bottom dead centre and as a result of which the exhaust gas stream is fed via at least one outlet valve (13, 14) of the combustion chamber (11) to the exhaust-gas power-recovery turbine (4) once the bottom dead centre has been reached. At least during the stroke movement of the piston (12) from the bottom dead centre to the top dead centre, air and fuel or a mixture thereof are/is simultaneously injected under pressure into the combustion chamber (11), and the mixture is ignited and at the same time exhaust gas is discharged from the combustion chamber (11) through at least one at least partially open outlet valve (13, 14).
