Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing a large amount of 2-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone with a high yield and at a low cost. This method comprises oxidizing 2-hydroxynaphthalene with hydrogen peroxide water in the presence of a vanadium catalyst in (1) an alkaline aqueous solution or (2) a mixture of an alkaline aqueous solution and an inactive organic solvent which is incompatible with water.
