[Problem] To provide a method for producing an α-acyloxy carboxylic acid ester, said method being efficient and excellently economical. [Solution] A method for producing an α-acyloxy carboxylic acid ester represented by formula (1), wherein an α-hydroxycarboxylic acid ester compound and an acylating agent are reacted with each other in the presence of a catalyst that is composed of an iron halide compound. (In formula (1), R1 represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, an ethyl group, a normal propyl group, an isopropyl group or a tertiary butyl group; each of R2 and R3 independently represents a methyl group or an ethyl group; and R4 represents a linear, branched or cyclic alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms.)
