Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a novel method for producing 2, 2'-bis(carboxymethoxy)-1, 1'-binaphthyl that is suitable as a resin starting material having excellent optical characteristics. The present invention provides, as a solution, a method for producing 2, 2'-bis(carboxymethoxy)-1, 1'-binaphthyl, which comprises a step (1) wherein crystallization is carried out, while setting the water content in a solution that contains 2, 2'-bis(carboxymethoxy)-1, 1'-binaphthyl and one or more substances selected from among chain aliphatic ketones having 5-8 carbon atoms to a value within the range of from 0.01% by weight to 2.0% by weight (inclusive).
