Abstract:
Provided is a method for stably and efficiently producing flexible polyurethane foam having excellent hydrophilic and water swelling properties, having a prescribed cell structure, and being suitable for use in microbial immobilization carriers for water treatment. A method for producing flexible polyurethane foam for microbial immobilization carriers for water treatment of the present invention has a step of causing foaming by mixing an A liquid that includes a urethane prepolymer and a polyisocyanate compound and a B liquid that includes a curing agent and a foaming agent. The temperature TA of the A liquid immediately before the mixing of the A liquid and the B liquid is 25-38°C and higher than the temperature TB of the B liquid immediately before the mixing. The flexible polyurethane foam has: a swollen density of 25-70 kg/m3 when swollen with water; an average pore count of 9-30 pores per 25 mm when swollen with water; and a volumetric swelling rate, expressed as the ratio of the volume when swollen with water to the volume when absolutely dry, of 110-1000%.
