Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is, in the production of produce gamma-butyrolactone by the dehydrogenation reaction of 1,4-butanediol in the presence of a catalyst, to produce gamma-butyrolactone with high efficiency by preventing the deterioration of the catalyst over time to increase the rate of production of gamma-butyrolactone and preventing the production of any reaction by-product. The present invention relates to a method for producing gamma-butyrolactone by the dehydrogenation reaction of a raw material 1,4-butanediol in the presence of a catalyst containing a metal belonging to any one of Groups 8-11 on the periodic table, wherein the concentration of a nitrogen-containing compound in the raw material 1,4-butanediol is set at 0.5-15 ppm by weight in terms of the concentration of nitrogen atoms.
