Title:
METHOD FOR PRODUCING HOLLOW SPHERICAL ARTICLES
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2003/033224
Kind Code:
A2
Abstract:
The inventive method can be used for producing reservoirs, shells, cupolas, balls and other articles from different materials like metals, plastics, leather etc. Said method consist in tailoring flat workpieces in the form of elements of the folding of truncated icosahedron which comprises 12 equal regular polygonal faces and 20 equal hexagonal faces. Said hexagonal faces are embodied in such a way that they are non-equilateral and have alternately disposed two-dimensional sides, three axes of symmetry each arranged at 120°, and a ratio between large and small sides thereof of 0.692 ? 0.2. The hexagonal faces are connected to each other by the small sides and to the polygonal faces by the large sides, thereby ensuring a maximum possible approach of the finished spherical article to a spherical surface.
