Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for producing a lubricant base oil, provided with a first hydrogenation treatment step for bringing a hydrogenation treatment catalyst and a light wax into contact at a temperature T1 to obtain a first treated oil, a second hydrogenation treatment step for bringing the hydrogenation treatment catalyst and the light wax into contact at a temperature T2 to obtain a second treated oil, and a base oil production step for obtaining a lubricant base oil from a raw material oil containing at least one type of oil selected from the group consisting of the first treated oil and the second treated oil, the hydrogenation treatment catalyst being a catalyst in which one or more metals selected from group 6, group 8, group 9, and group 10 elements of the periodic table is supported on an inorganic oxide carrier in which the total acid point quantity A1 measured by temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia is 0.5 mmol/g or greater, and the temperature T2 being a temperature that is higher than the temperature T1.
