Abstract:
Provided is a method for producing a negatively chargeable polymerized toner which has excellent thin line reproducibility and excellent balance between thermal storage stability and low-temperature fixability, while being reduced in the occurrence of fog. A method for producing a negatively chargeable polymerized toner, which comprises: a suspension step for obtaining a suspension, in which drops of a first-stage polymerizable monomer composition that contains at least a first-stage polymerizable monomer, a coloring agent and a charge control agent are dispersed, by suspending the first-stage polymerizable monomer composition in an aqueous dispersion medium containing a dispersion stabilizer; a first-stage polymerization step for performing suspension polymerization using the above-described suspension in the presence of a polymerization initiator; and a second-stage polymerization step for performing suspension polymerization by adding a second-stage polymerizable monomer satisfying formula (1) when the polymer conversion rate in the first-stage polymerization step reaches 5-95%. This method for producing a negatively chargeable polymerized toner is characterized in that: the charge control agent is obtained by copolymerizing a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon, a (meth)acrylate and a sulfonic acid group-containing (meth)acrylamide; and the copolymerization ratio of the sulfonic acid group-containing (meth)acrylamide is 0.8-4.0% by mass. Tg1 > Tg2 formula (1) (In formula (1), Tg1 represents the glass transition temperature (°C) of a polymer that is obtained by polymerizing the first-stage polymerizable monomer; and Tg2 represents the glass transition temperature (°C) of a polymer that is obtained by polymerizing the second-stage polymerizable monomer.)
