Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for producing a high-concentration, low K-value vinyl pyrrolidone-based polymer solution having superior temporal stability. This method is for producing a vinyl pyrrolidone-based polymer solution having a polymer concentration of 40-70 mass% and a K value of 10-28 as determined by the process introduced by Fikentscher, the method being characterized by comprising a step for adding, to a reaction vessel, monomer components including N-vinyl pyrrolidone and a polymerization initiator containing hydrogen peroxide, and performing polymerization, wherein the amount of the hydrogen peroxide used is 1.6-4.0 mass% with respect to 100 mass% of all the monomers used, and the amount of ammonia used after the addition of the monomer components is 0-0.3 mass% with respect to 100 mass% of all the monomers used.
