Title:
METHOD FOR REDUCING ASH CONTENT IN WASTE LUBRICATING OIL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2018/047607
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to overcome a variety of problems inherent in the prior art and provide a method for reducing the ash content in a waste oil, whereby metal components that form ash, moisture, and the like, in a treated oil can be efficiently reduced or eliminated by use of a simple method. That is, the present invention is a method for reducing the ash content in a waste oil or recovered heavy oil, the method being characterized by including: a first step of adding an aqueous solution of an ash content-reducing agent selected from among aliphatic hydroxycarboxylic acids having 3-6 carbon atoms and ammonium salts thereof to a waste oil that contains a used lubricating oil or a recovered heavy oil obtained by physically treating a waste oil, and mixing/stirring so as to bring about a reaction; and a second step of subjecting the obtained mixture to stationary separation so as to separate the obtained mixture into an upper layer that is a treated oil layer and a lower layer that is an aqueous layer comprising an aqueous solution of the ash content-reducing agent that dissolves metal salts that form ash, separating and recovering the treated oil, recovering the aqueous solution of the ash content-reducing agent in the lower layer, and using this aqueous solution as the ash content-reducing agent for the first step of the next batch. Citric acid is most preferred as the ash content-reducing agent.
