Title:
MODIFIED EPOXY RESIN AND ELECTRODEPOSITION COATING MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2023/048273
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Provided is an epoxy resin which shows excellent curability in the case of using a low-activity catalyst or of low temperatures and has excellent storage stability and which gives coating materials excellent in terms of coating-film finish and anticorrosive property. The present invention further addresses the problem of providing: an amine-modified epoxy resin obtained by reacting the epoxy resin with an amine compound; and a cationic electrodeposition coating material including the amine-modified epoxy resin. The epoxy resin is a modified epoxy resin obtained by reacting at least (i) a compound (α) having one or more epoxy groups and (ii) a compound (β) having one or more functional groups reactive with an epoxy group, the total functionality of the functional groups being 3 or greater, and/or a compound (γ) having one or more functional groups reactive with an epoxy group, the total functionality of the functional groups being 1 or 2. The modified epoxy resin has an average degree of polyfunctionality (X1) per molecule, which is shown by the following equation (1), of 0.10 or greater. Equation (1): Average degree of polyfunctionality (X1) = (number of ends per molecule of the modified epoxy resin)-2
