Description:
MULTI-PURPOSE BAG THAT CAN BE CARRIED BY HAND THROUGH GRABBING THE HANDLE OR CARRIED ON THE SHOULDER WITH A STRAP OR CARRIED INSIDE THE

PALM OF A HAND OR UNDER THE ARM

Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to bags that are used so as to carry computers, books, laptops, medium personal items (clothing, shoes etc.) and small personal items (such as keys, wallets, etc.).

The present invention particularly relates to a bag design with three different manners of use that can be carried inside the palm of a hand or under the arm (as ina clutch bag), by grabbing the handle (as in a briefcase) and on the shoulder with a shoulder strap (as in a messenger bag).

State of the Art

Today, bags with different designs are used to carry personal items such as computers, books, laptops, keys, wallets, etc.. Current bag designs usually come with one of four carrying methods available to them. One of them are thin laptop cases that can be carried under the arm or inside the palm like a clutch. The other types are laptop bags hung on the shoulder. Another type are laptop bags carried in hand by the handle like a briefcase. Lastly, shoulder bags that are in the form of bagpacks with two straps are widely used. Designs that offer combinations of carrying methods are found. Most bags also include a handle for carrying by the hand when needed. There are also bagpacks with two shoulder straps that can transform in to a messenger bag to be used with a single shoulder strap hung over the shoulder that also features a handle to be carried as a briefcase. But because of their bulky and massive designs bags with straps can not be carried inside the palm or under the arm when needed.

In the prior art, laptop bags with shoulder straps are not appropriate to be carried under the arm or inside the palm like a clutch, because of their large volume. There is no computer bag on the market that both can be carried under the arm comfortably and also contains a shoulder strap. In the state of the art, there are two types of laptop bag designs with shoulder straps where the user can alternate between a shoulder bag (messenger bag) and a briefcase (where the user holds the bag with his hand from a handle).

The first method is to remove the shoulder strap and locate it within the bag when the user wants to carry the bag from the handle. However, this method occupies space in the bag and leads to inefficient usage of the bag. For this reason, many users remove the strap and keep it at home. But in that case, the strap cannot be used if it is suddenly needed. Alternating from a shoulder bag to a briefcase and back becomes impossible when traveling.

In the second method the strap is placed in a pocket outside the bag, but this increases the external volume of the bag. The bag whose volume is increased cannot be carried under the arm or inside the palm like a clutch.

In the state of the art, shoulder bags with straps cannot be carried under the arm in a safe and comfortable manner. While carrying the bag on the shoulder as the bag comes out of the users sight, it is possible that a thieve can steal posessions in the bag by opening the zipper in a crowd. When the bag is carried by its handle, it can be exposed to theft by snatching. The safest way to carry a bag is close to the body within the sight of the user. One way to to this is to carry the bag under the arm which is is a safer way handle a bag in crowds. Carrying a bag under the arm or inside the palm also makes it a lot quicker and easier for the user to reach to a front pocket to remove an essential like keys or a passport. The distance from the hand to the pocket of the bag is further away in bags carried on the shoulder or with the handle as opposed to bags carried under the arm or inside the palm.

As a result of the researches made in the literature, various embodiments are encountered regarding bags. One of them is the utility model with application numbered TR2019/17483 titled “Multi-purpose project and art bag”. In the abstract of the invention with a classification number of A45C 7/00, it is stated that “the invention relates to a multi-purpose project and art bag which is used to carry materials in daily life, at least one inner section whose upper section can be opened and closed with zipper and in which books, files, large-size drawing books, large-size catalogs, documents and various daily items can be placed according to the user’s requirements and at least one inner pocket for holding wallet or phone on the front or rear face within the inner section. The invention is characterized by comprising; electronic device section in which electronic devices such as laptop or tablet are placed on the front or rear surface within the said interior section, waterproof polyester external surface forming the outer part of said inner section, handle that is located on the upper side of the said outer face and has an adjustable length in a form that is suitable for carrying the bag on the shoulder or in hand or on the back, elastic band on both sides of the lower section of said outer face in which a pipe file is passed”. This utility model can be referred to as an example to containing some of the disadvantages mentioned above since this bag has only one carrying handle.

Another example of the above mentioned structure is the patent with the application number TR2Q10/03050 titled as “Multi-purpose bag.” In the abstract of the invention with a classification number of A45C 3/00, it is stated that “this invention is a four-model bag for double-sided usage as a hobby bag, beach bag and sunbathing blanket, as baby diaper cover etc. for comfortable carrying of children’s toys without untidiness after playing, baby diaper cover etc. with different connecting methods. Moreover, it is a bag designed for protecting the environment and preventing the use of nylon bags withe same connection methods, for the sectors such as jewelry sector in very small sizes, for use in market shopping in larger sizes.”

This application can be used in different ways due to its structure but it has a single handle as a carrying method. Therefore, this application can also be referred to as an example to to having disadvantage mentioned above.

As a result; parallel to the developing technology in bags, needs for users are also changing therefore new bag systems are required in order to eliminate above mentioned disadvantages and bring new solutions to current systems.

Aim of the Invention

The invention is related to bags that solve the problems with current state of the art bags mentioned above. Apart from solving these problems, the invention also brings new advantages to current state of the art in the field of bags.

The aim of the invention is to carry the shoulder strap on the surface of the bag without having to detach them or have them occupy space inside the bag. This is made possible by the use of one or more bands on the surface of the bag.

Another aim of the invention is to carry the bag in the form of a clutch inside the palm by handling the bag from the bottom with the option of providing support to the wrist by means of the carrier band on the surface behind the bag.

Another aim of the invention is to carry the bag without the danger of falling by attaching the carrier band to the carry-on luggage when the bag is to be carried on the luggage again by means of the carrier band on the surface behing the bag.

Another aim of the invention is to carry an umbrella on the outside of the bag with the help of the bands that are originally there to carry the shoulder strap. This way, a wet umbrella would not have to be carried inside the bag. Another aim of the invention is for the user to be able to use the front pocket when the bag is helod upside down. This is made possible by putting zippers on either side of the pocket so the same pocket could be used from both sides.

Another aim of the invention is to provide three different carrying styles as in by hanging the bag on the shoulder by a shoulder strap, as a clutch carried under the arm or inside the palm, or as a briefcase carried by the handle.

Another aim of the invention is to prevent theft incidents such as snatching. When the bag is carried under the arm, the bag is within the angle of sight of the user and as close as it could be to the users body. The strongest way a person could hold a bag against snatching would be under the arm.

Another aim of the invention is to facilitate quick access to small items such as phone, wallet etc. This is possible by carrying the bag under the arm or inside the palm.

The structural and characteristic features of the present invention will be understood clearly by the following drawings and the detailed description made with reference to these drawings.

Detailed Description of the Invention

In this detailed description, the preferred embodiments of the bag (1 ) is described only for clarifying the subject matter in a manner such that no limiting effect is created.

Structure;

Said bag (1) consists of bag body (10), bands (20), shoulder strap (30), carrier band (40), handle (50), front pocket (60) and rear pocket (70).

There are separate pockets on the rear (B) and front faces (A) of the bag body (10). In Figure 1 , the rear face (B) of the bag (1 ) is shown, and this face has a rear pocket (70). The rear pocket (70) has a cover and the pocket is accessible by opening the cover. Moreover a carrier band (40) is also sewn on the rear face (B) of the bag (1). There is a front pocket (60) on the front face (A) of the bag body (10) seen in Figure 2, where it is closed with the front pocket zippers (61). Two front pocket zippers (61 ) are used. One of the front pocket zippers (61) is used when the bag (1 ) is used with the shoulder strap (30) and carried on the shoulder (figure 1 ) and the other front zipper (61 ) is used when the bag is carried upside down by the handle or inside the palm (Figure 5). Said shoulder strap (30) is attached to the side sections of the bag body (10). It allows the bag (1) to be carried on the shoulder. Hooks (31) are used so as to attach the strap (30) to the bag (1). The hook (31) can be detached to free the shoulder strap (30) to be separated from the bag when desired.

Bands (20) are used to secure and hold the shoulder strap (30) in position on the front face (A) of the bag (1). One end of the bands (20) are fixed to the rear face (B) of the bag (1) by band fasteners (21). In Figures 1 and 5, the other end of the bands (20) are fixed to the band fasteners (12) located on the front face (A) of the bag (1). When the shoulder strap (30) is not in use, it is placed between the bands (20) and the front face (A) of the bag. This way, when the shoulder strap (30) is not used, it does not have to be detached from the bag.

The bands (20) can be designed so that one end of a band is permenantly fixed and the other side is detachable from the bag body (10) or designed so that both ends of the band are detachable, or both ends of the band are permenantly fixed to the bag body (10). When both ends of the band are permenantly fixed to the bag body (10), a material with elastic structure could be used.

The said bands (20) are attached to the front face (A) with a touch and close band fastener (12). One example to a touch and close fastner is hook and loop fasteners such as the velcro trademarked product. There are fastener counterparts (22) at the end of the bands (20) in order to attach the same to the touch and close fastener. These fastener counterparts (22) are also touch and close fasteners and provide attachment. The band (20) is attached to the rear face (B) permenantly or using a fasteners such as snaps and buttons, magnetic attachments, hook and loop fasteners, buckles etc. In the case of the bands comprising of detachable attachments on both sides, the bands (20) can be removed fully by means of the fasteners (21 ), (22), (12). Therefore, the bands (20) can be replaced if they are not used at all or if they are deformed and need replacement.

The carrier band (40) on the rear face (B) of the bag (1 ) shown in Figures 1 and 5 is the section that enables the bag (1) to be attached to the luggage handle and to be carried on the luggage easily. Moreover the said carrier band (40) provides a support to the wrist when carrying the bag inside the palm. The person can also carry the bag under inside the palm without using this carrier band (40).

The handle (50), is used for carrying the bag (1 ) in hand. In Figure 5, the shoulder strap (30) is secured using the bands (20) and the bag is turned upside down to allow for use of the handle (50). In Figure 5, the shoulder strap (30) is not visible from this perspective since it is placed at the front side of the bag. The bag (1 ) brought to this position is carried by the handle (50). When the said bag is in this position, the body zipper (11) is at the bottom section of the bag (1).

Usage:

When the bag (1) is desired to be used by hanging on the shoulder, it is used by being brought to the position in figures 1 and 2. As it can be seen in the figures, the body zipper (11 ) remains on the upper section. After this body zipper (11) is opened, the necessary items are placed in or removed from the bag (1 ), and then the zipper is closed. The handle (50) remains under the bag (1) when the bag is used in this position.

When the bag (1 ) is desired to be carried by the handle (50) like a briefcase, the shoulder strap (30) is disabled by securing it to the outside of the bag with the use of the bands (20). To disable the strap and secure it on the outside of the bag (1 ), the bands (20) are opened by detaching the band fasteners (12) as seen in Figure 3. After the bands are in open position, the shoulder strap (30) is gathered and placed within this section between the bands (20) and the bag body (10). Subsequently, the bands (20) are closed and attached to the band fasteners (12) and fixed to the bag body (10) as seen in Figure 4. Therefore, the shoulder strap (30) is disabled by being kept under the bands (20).

In order to carry the bag with inside the palm like a clutch, the shoulder strap (30) is disabled using the bands (20), the arm is passed through the carrier band (40) and the bag (1) is held from the bottom by the hand while keeping the bag (1) in the same position. The carrier band (40) supports the ankle during carrying. It is not necessary to use a carrier band (40) while carrying the bag (1) inside the palm like a clutch. Although the carrier band (40) provides support for the wrist, some users may prefer not passing their arm through the carrier band (40). This way, they the arm would not close the passage way to the rear pocket (70).

The bag (1 ) can also be carried like a briefcase by holding the handle (50) and turning the bag (1) upside down as in Figure 5. The front pocket (60) can be easily used since it has double zippers. The front pocket (60) has an attachable and removable structure.

In order to carry the bag (1) inside the plam like a clutch or by the handle (50) like a briefcase, the shoulder strap (30) can be quickly and very easily be disabled using the bands (20). Likewise, whenever needed, the shoulder strap can be very quickly be available again. This quick and easy use and switch from one carrying style to the other is a very important advantage to the invention. Other properties provided with the bands (20) are as follows:

• Bands make possible for the shoulder strap (30) to be fixed to the bag (1 ) while adding a very small volume that will not prevent the bag (1) from being carried under the arm like a clutch. · The bands (20) can be detached from one side and this makes it possible for the shoulder strap (30) to be secured between the bands (20) and the bag body (10).

• The bands (20) can be replaced easily when they wear out since they are removable on both sides.

• When the bands (20) are in closed form, an umbrella can also be placed and carried with them by placing the umbrella between the bands (20) and the bag body (10). This way, a wet umbrella does not have to be placed inside the bag, and the umbrella won ' t take up space inside the bag.
