Abstract:
A light irradiation device 1 condenses light onto the surface or the inside of an object 2 to observe or process the object 2, and includes a laser light source 11, a lens 12, a lens 13, a mask 14, a wave plate 15, and a lens 16. The mask 14 is a multi-ring mask that spatially modulates the intensity of inputted light in a beam cross section and outputs the modulated light, and includes a plurality of ring-shaped light-shielding parts provided around a central position, and a light-transmitting part provided between two adjacent light-shielding parts among the plurality of light-shielding parts. The radial width of each of the two adjacent light-shielding parts among the plurality of light-shielding parts is greater than the radial width of the light-transmitting part provided between the two light-shielding parts. With this arrangement, a light irradiation device capable of condensing light efficiently onto a region smaller than the diffraction limit is achieved.
