A multi-split air conditioner and a method for controlling the self-cleaning of same; the multi-split air conditioner comprises an outdoor unit and an indoor unit group, and the indoor unit group comprises a first indoor unit and at least one second indoor unit. The method for controlling the self-cleaning of a multi-split air conditioner comprises: causing the first indoor unit to execute a self-cleaning mode when all indoor units of the air conditioner are in cooling working conditions; and closing an electronic expansion valve corresponding to the second indoor unit. In the described control method, the electronic expansion valve of the second indoor unit is closed so as to ensure that there is sufficient refrigerant circulating in a pipeline system of the first indoor unit so that the frosting of the first indoor unit is fuller, a dust and dirt peeling and washing effect is better, and a self-cleaning effect is improved.
