Abstract:
The present invention relates to: a novelly developed butane-tetraol-based amphipathic compound; a preparation method therefor; and a method for extracting, solubilizing, stabilizing, crystallizing, or analyzing membrane proteins by using the same. A chiral core structure is present in the butane-tetraol-based compound according to the present invention, and a clear difference has been discovered in the characteristics of isomers according to the stereochemistry of the core structure, and thus an appropriate compound suitable for a use can be selected. In addition, compared to a conventional compound, the compound can effectively extract membrane proteins having various structures and characteristics from cell membranes, and stably store the same in an aqueous solution for a long time, thereby being usable in the functional analysis and structural analysis of the same. Because of a close relationship with the development of new drugs, structural and functional analysis of membrane proteins is one of fields that currently receives the most attention in biology and chemistry.
