Abstract:
During research to develop a therapeutic drug for human arthritis using a pentosan polysulfate sodium injection, the present inventors found that the problem of formation of microparticles due to delamination was caused in injection ampoules of pentosan polysulfate sodium for treatment of human arthritis. While injections of pentosan polysulfate sodium have been employed over 30 years, this finding has never been presented hitherto. Accordingly, the present invention addresses the problem of preventing the occurrence of delamination in a pentosan polysulfate sodium injection. From the viewpoint of preventing delamination in a pentosan polysulfate sodium injection by formulating pentosan polysulfate sodium into a freeze-dried preparation, the present inventors conducted extensive studies on freeze-dried preparations and methods for producing the same and, as a result, successfully produced a freeze-dried preparation of pentosan polysulfate sodium for the first time, thereby completing the present invention.
