A wood antiseptic that is effective in controlling wood-decaying fungi (for example, brown-rot fungus and white-rot fungus) and that does not need any special treatment prescribed in laws for water pollution prevention, etc., being free from pollution at waste wood scrapping. There is provided a wood antiseptic comprising, as an active ingredient for prevention of breeding of wood-decaying fungi, a phenolic oligomer obtained by reacting a phenol with a styrene in the presence of an acid catalyst, or an aromatic olefin oligomer obtained by reacting aromatic olefins whose main components are at least two members selected from among indenes, coumarones and styrenes in the presence of an acid catalyst.
