Provided are a crack detection device that identifies occurrences of cracks and the progress of the cracks in the surface of the body part of a roll for rolling online and a roll for rolling provided with such a crack detection function without having continuous disposition of many sensors on the roll for rolling and without having to make large modifications to a rolling device and the roll for rolling. The online crack detection device for a roll for rolling incorporated into a rolling device is characterized in that the roll for rolling has a body part and shaft parts extending from both ends of the body part as a unit, and the crack detection device is provided with: a roll for rolling having, disposed on at least one shaft part, an AE sensor for detecting elastic waves generated on the surface of the body part, and a calculation unit for calculating the characteristic quantities of the elastic waves detected by the AE sensor; and a discrimination unit for discriminating the elastic waves due to cracks occurring in the surface of the body part by the characteristic qualities.
