Abstract:
Provided is an optical computing element capable of building a multi-layered optical neural network without using an optical amplifier. The optical computing element comprises: a photothermal conversion unit 30 that converts optical energy from an input light A to thermal energy; a light intensity alteration unit 20 that is in contact with the photothermal conversion unit 30 and changes the intensity of external light B guided from outside, so as to correspond to temperature changes following heat generation or heat absorption by the photothermal conversion unit 30; and a housing 10 that houses the light intensity alteration unit 20, guides external light B from one side, and outputs output light C that has attenuated the intensity of external light B, outputting same to the opposite side to the one side.
