Abstract:
The present invention provides: an optical multilayer body which exhibits excellent adhesion between two optically anisotropic layers, while having an optically anisotropic layer serving as an A plate or a layer to which a twisted alignment liquid crystal phase is fixed, said layer having excellent liquid crystal alignment properties; a polarizing plate; and an image display device. An optical multilayer body according to the present invention comprises: a first optically anisotropic layer that is formed using a first liquid crystal compound; a second optically anisotropic layer that is formed using a second liquid crystal compound; and a mixed layer that is arranged between the first optically anisotropic layer and the second optically anisotropic layer, while containing a component derived from the first liquid crystal compound and a component derived from the second liquid crystal compound. The first optically anisotropic layer serves as a C plate; the second optically anisotropic layer serves as an A plate, or a layer to which a twisted alignment liquid crystal phase is fixed; the mixed layer additionally contains a photo-alignment compound; and a specific requirement is satisfied if the components of the optical multilayer body in the depth direction are analyzed by time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry, while irradiating the optical multilayer body with an ion beam from the first optically anisotropic layer-side surface toward the second optically anisotropic layer side.
