Abstract:
A painting robot which, by painting areas with high curvature appropriately, can improve painting quality and reduce paint waste, and a painting method using said painting robot are provided. This painting robot 10 is provided with an arm control unit 110 which controls operation of a robot arm R1, a head control unit 130 which controls driving of the nozzles 54 in a nozzle head 53, a distance measurement means 80 which measures the distance between the painting position and the nozzle discharge surface 52, and an image processing unit 100 which, on the basis of the painting area of a vehicle 200 to be painted, forms a three-dimensional painting model, which is a three-dimensional model; on the basis of the distance measured between the virtual nozzle head 53 and the painting area in the three-dimensional painting model, or the distance measured by the distance measurement means 80, the head control unit 130 performs control to discharge paint from the nozzles 54 that are at a distance within a prescribed range and not to discharge paint from nozzles 54 beyond the prescribed range.
