Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising gossypol or a derivative thereof as an active ingredient for prevention or treatment of a neurological disorder. A decrease in the level of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA causes a disease such as epilepsy, seizure, convulsion, depression, and Parkinson's disease. The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising gossypol or a derivative thereof as an active ingredient for prevention or treatment of a neurological disorder. When administered to a subject, the pharmaceutical composition of the present invention brings about a remarkable increase in the intracerebral level of GABA and, as such, is expected to be used for therapy of various diseases caused by a decreased level of GABA.
