Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for the prevention and treatment of dental caries, comprising fluoride varnish and an antibacterial substance as active ingredients. A fluoride varnish composition, of the present invention, comprising Xanthorrhizol, Bakuchiol, Bavachalcone, Isobavachromene or Bavachromene exhibits significant antibacterial activity against a Streptococcus mutans (S.mutans) strain which causes dental caries and, in particular, the composition exhibits remarkable antibacterial activity compared with the antibacterial activity of Xanthorrhizol, Bakuchiol, Bavachalcone, Isobavachromene, Bavachromene or fluoride varnish. Therefore, the fluoride varnish comprising Xanthorrhizol, Bakuchiol, Bavachalcone, Isobavachromene or Bavachromene can be usefully used for the prevention and treatment of dental caries.
