Title:
PHOSPHORUS ATOM CONTAINING FLUORINATED CATIONIC EXCHANGE MEMBRANE AND PROTON-CONDUCTIVE FUEL CELL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2000063991
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
A novel phosphorus atom-containing fluorinated cationic exchange membrane consisting substantially of the recurring units (A): -(CF2 CF2)- and (B), wherein m is 0 or 1, n is 2 or 3, X and Y are each H or C6H4SO3H, and the ratio of the recurring units, i.e., (A)/(B) is 1.5 to 15; and a proton conductive fuel cell using the cationic exchange membrane. The cationic exchange membrane can be used for achieving a high exchange capacity required for a high energy efficiency, while securing a mechanical strength for maintaining the assembly and the performance capabilities of a fuel cell for a long period of time, which has been difficult to be achieved by a conventional perfluorosulfonic acid membrane for such a fuel cell.
