Abstract:
Disclosed is a photosensitizing compound represented by the formula (I): (I) wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom, a C1-12 alkyl group or a C1-12 alkoxy group; R2 represents a C1-12 alkyl group or a C1-12 alkoxy group; R3, R4, R5, R6, R7 and R8 independently represent a hydrogen or halogen atom; and R9 represents a monovalent group capable of being cleaved by contacting with an enzyme or a reactive oxygen species. The compound of the formula (I) can serve as a photosensitizer when the group R9 is cleaved out from the compound by contacting with an enzyme or a reactive oxygen species expressed in a target cell, and therefore is useful as a PDT pharmaceutical which can kill the target cell selectively by irradiation with excited light.
