Abstract:
The present invention provides: polymer particles which can be dissolved in a dissolution medium without generating lumps, and can uniformly improve the viscosity of a composition; and a thickener using said polymer particles. The polymer particles according to the present invention are characterized in that: the number-average particle diameter is 1-50 μm; the coefficient of variation in the number-based particle size distribution is at least 30%; and when the weight-average molecular weight of all the polymer particles is denoted by A, the weight-average molecular weight of small particles having a cumulative number percentage of at most 5% from the small diameter side in the number-based particle size distribution of the polymer particles is denoted by B, and the weight-average molecular weight of large particles having a particle diameter corresponding to at least 5 times the number-average particle diameter of the polymer particles is denoted by C, expression (1) and expression (2) are satisfied. 0.90≤(B/A)<1.0 expression (1) (C/B)<1.25 expression (2)
