Abstract:

A poly(vinyl alcohol) mold release film for artificial marble molding use, which is arranged between a raw material solution that is a raw material for artificial marble and a shaping apparatus during the molding by supplying the raw material solution to the shaping apparatus and solidifying the raw material solution, the mold release film being characterized by being a poly(vinyl alcohol) film and satisfying the requirement represented by formula (1). Thus, there are provided: a poly(vinyl alcohol) mold release film for artificial marble molding use which, in the production of a wide variety types of artificial marble, makes it possible to prevent the occurrence of wrinkling, curling or the like at both end parts of the produced artificial marble and therefore prevent the defects of the form of the surface of the produced artificial marble, and also makes it possible to simplify a process for cutting/grinding the artificial marble; and a method for producing artificial marble using the mold release film. 4.6 × 10-3 ≥ Δn(MD)0 - 1.4 × 10-3 ≥ Δn(TD)0 ≥ 1.0 × 10-3 (1) [In formula (1), Δn(MD)0 represents a value determined by thickness-averaging machine-running-direction birefringence indexes of the poly(vinyl alcohol) mold release film as measured at center parts thereof as observed in the width direction; and Δn(TD)0 represents a value determined by thickness-averaging width-direction birefringence indexes of the poly(vinyl alcohol) mold release film as measured at center parts thereof as observed in the width direction.
