Title:
POWER CONVERTER WITH ACTIVELY CONTROLLABLE COMMUTATION
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO1999053602
Kind Code:
A9
Abstract:
The invention relates to a power converter with actively controllable commutation. Said power converter is connected to an a/c or three-phase voltage system and is preferably configured in a bridge circuit. The invention is characterised in that the main current valves of the power converter have a reverse blocking action and are constantly controllable in the forward direction and in that if, after the next valve to carry the current has been activated, the commutation voltage which is effective in the commutation circuit from the last valve to carry the current to the next becomes unacceptably high in terms of the effects it causes on the a/c side, a constant, variable voltage which is also positive in the direction of the targeted current flow and optionally, current-dependent, is set between the main current electrodes of the valve which is next to carry the current by influencing the controlled system of said valve. This voltage is set at a value high enough to reduce the commutation voltage which is effective in the commutation circuit from the last valve to carry the current to the next to the extent that the effects it causes on the a/c side are admissible.
